Setting Your Target Ranges
How to configure personal target ranges for blood pressure, glucose, and weight in VitalSync — what the defaults are, how to customise them, and how they affect colour coding on logged entries and the NeoVital graph.

All content presents health data against established clinical reference ranges. Always consult a qualified healthcare professional for medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment.
Setting Your Target Ranges
VitalSync uses your personal target ranges to colour-code every logged entry and to draw reference bands on the NeoVital graph. Setting accurate targets is the single most important personalisation step — it transforms raw numbers into meaningful, at-a-glance health signals.
Where to Find Health Targets
Go to VitalSync > Settings > Health Targets. The screen is divided into three sections: Blood Pressure, Blood Sugar, and Body Weight. Each section has its own set of fields and a Save button.
Blood Pressure Targets
Default Values
VitalSync ships with the following defaults, based on the 2023 European Society of Hypertension (ESH) guidelines for adults without specific comorbidities:
| Metric | Default Target |
| Systolic (upper number) | < 130 mmHg |
| Diastolic (lower number) | < 80 mmHg |
How to Customise
Colour Coding on Logged Entries
| Colour | Meaning |
| Green | Both systolic and diastolic are within your target |
| Amber | One or both values are 10--20 mmHg above your target (borderline) |
| Red | One or both values exceed your target by more than 20 mmHg |
NeoVital Reference Band
The NeoVital graph draws a soft green horizontal band across the systolic axis at your target value. Readings above the band are plotted in amber or red; readings within or below are plotted in the line's default colour.
Guidance by Population
The table below summarises commonly used clinical targets. Always follow the target set by your own healthcare provider — these are reference values only.
| Population | Systolic Target | Diastolic Target | Source |
| General adult (no comorbidities) | < 130 mmHg | < 80 mmHg | ESH 2023 |
| Adults ≥ 65 years | < 140 mmHg | < 90 mmHg | ESH 2023 |
| Diabetes + hypertension | < 130 mmHg | < 80 mmHg | ADA 2024 |
| Chronic kidney disease | < 120 mmHg | Individualised | KDIGO 2021 |
| Pregnancy (gestational hypertension) | < 140 mmHg | < 90 mmHg | ISSHP 2022 |
Blood Sugar (Glucose) Targets
Default Values
VitalSync ships with ADA 2024 general adult targets:
| Reading Type | Default Target |
| Fasting / pre-meal | 80 -- 130 mg/dL (4.4 -- 7.2 mmol/L) |
| Post-meal (2-hour) | < 180 mg/dL (< 10.0 mmol/L) |
| Time in Range (TIR) | ≥ 70% of readings between 70 -- 180 mg/dL |
How to Customise
Colour Coding on Logged Entries
| Colour | Meaning |
| Green | Reading falls within your fasting or post-meal target range |
| Amber | Reading is 10--20% outside your target |
| Red | Reading is more than 20% outside your target, or below the hypoglycaemia threshold (< 70 mg/dL / < 3.9 mmol/L) |
Hypoglycaemia alert: Readings below 70 mg/dL (3.9 mmol/L) are always flagged red regardless of your custom target, as this threshold is a universal clinical safety marker.
Guidance by Population
| Population | Fasting Target | Post-Meal (2 hr) Target | Source |
| Type 1 Diabetes | 80 -- 130 mg/dL | < 180 mg/dL | ADA 2024 |
| Type 2 Diabetes | 80 -- 130 mg/dL | < 180 mg/dL | ADA 2024 |
| Gestational Diabetes | 95 -- 140 mg/dL | < 120 mg/dL (1 hr) | ADA 2024 |
| Non-diabetic (general wellness) | 70 -- 100 mg/dL | < 140 mg/dL | ADA 2024 |
| Older adults (≥ 65, complex health) | 80 -- 180 mg/dL | Individualised | ADA 2024 |
Time in Range (TIR)
VitalSync calculates your Time in Range as the percentage of readings over the past 14 days that fall between your fasting low and post-meal high targets. The ADA recommends a TIR of ≥ 70% for most adults with diabetes. Your TIR percentage is displayed on the Blood Sugar tab summary card.
Body Weight Target
Default Value
VitalSync does not set a default weight target — this field is intentionally blank until you configure it, because a clinically appropriate weight goal is highly individual.
How to Customise
Colour Coding and Progress Display
- The Weight tab shows a progress bar from your starting weight (the first logged entry) to your goal weight.
- Entries are colour-coded: green if your weight is trending toward your goal, amber if it has plateaued for more than 14 days, red if it is trending away from your goal.
- The NeoVital graph draws a horizontal dashed line at your goal weight on the Body Weight axis.
Setting a Clinically Appropriate Goal
The table below provides reference BMI ranges from the WHO and NIH. BMI is a population-level screening tool and does not account for muscle mass, bone density, or ethnicity-specific risk thresholds. Use it as a starting point for a conversation with your provider, not as a definitive target.
| BMI Range | Classification |
| < 18.5 | Underweight |
| 18.5 -- 24.9 | Normal weight |
| 25.0 -- 29.9 | Overweight |
| 30.0 -- 34.9 | Obesity Class I |
| 35.0 -- 39.9 | Obesity Class II |
| ≥ 40.0 | Obesity Class III |
Goal weight (kg) = Target BMI × Height (m)²
For example, for a target BMI of 24 and a height of 1.75 m:
24 × (1.75)² = 24 × 3.0625 = 73.5 kg
Rate of Change Guidance
The NIH and most clinical guidelines recommend a weight loss rate of 0.5 -- 1.0 kg (1 -- 2 lbs) per week for sustainable fat loss without significant lean mass reduction. VitalSync will display a warning if your target date implies a rate faster than 1.5 kg/week, as this may require medical supervision.
Resetting to Defaults
To reset any target to its factory default:
Important: The target ranges in VitalSync are for personal tracking and self-monitoring only. They do not constitute medical advice and do not replace targets set by your physician, endocrinologist, cardiologist, or other qualified healthcare provider. If you are unsure what target is appropriate for your health status, consult your care team before making changes.
