NeoSleep — Understanding Your Sleep Dashboard
NeoSleep is VitalSync's sleep analysis module. It visualises your nightly sleep architecture using a colour-coded band chart and provides a 7-night rolling average so you can spot trends over time.
The NeoSleep Band Chart
The chart displays each night as a horizontal timeline from sleep onset to wake time. Four coloured bands represent the four sleep stages:
| Band | Colour | What It Represents |
| Deep | Purple | Slow-wave sleep (N3) — the most physically restorative stage. Peaks in the first half of the night. |
| Core | Green | Light-to-moderate sleep (N1 + N2) — the largest portion of a healthy night. |
| REM | Amber/Orange | Rapid Eye Movement sleep — critical for memory consolidation and emotional regulation. Increases toward morning. |
| Awake | Red/Pink | Brief awakenings or time spent awake. Some awakenings are normal; frequent ones may indicate fragmented sleep. |
The band width at any point on the timeline reflects the relative proportion of that stage. A healthy night shows a thick green (Core) band with visible purple (Deep) sections early in the night and amber (REM) sections in the later hours.
Reading the Summary Header
At the top of the NeoSleep screen you will see:
- Total Sleep Duration (e.g., 8h 30m) — time from sleep onset to final wake.
- Last Night label — confirms this is the most recent night's data.
- Deep % — percentage of total sleep spent in Deep (N3). A healthy range is roughly 13–23%.
- REM % — percentage in REM. A healthy range is roughly 20–25%.
- Efficiency % — time asleep ÷ time in bed × 100. Above 85% is generally considered good.
7-Night Average Panel
Below the band chart, the 7-Night Avg section shows a horizontal bar for each stage with the average duration on the right:
| Stage | Healthy Average (Adults) |
| Deep | 60–90 min |
| Core | 3.5–5 h |
| REM | 90–120 min |
| Awake | < 20 min |
These averages update each morning after a new night is logged. If fewer than 7 nights of data are available, the average reflects only the nights recorded.
Enabling Automatic Sleep Logging
VitalSync can detect sleep automatically using your Apple Watch or iPhone motion sensors.
To enable on iOS:Note: For the most accurate stage breakdown, wear your Apple Watch or a connected BLE heart-rate monitor while sleeping. Without a wearable, VitalSync uses iPhone/Android motion data and provides duration and efficiency estimates only — stage breakdown requires heart rate data.
Logging Sleep Manually
If auto-logging is off or you forgot to wear your device:
Manually logged entries show duration and efficiency but do not include stage breakdown.
NeoSleep in Your Personal Health Report
When you generate a Personal Health Report PDF, the NeoSleep Summary section includes:
- Last-night total duration, Deep %, REM %, and Efficiency %
- The 7-night average band chart
- A trend line showing sleep duration over the selected report period
