Setting Your Daily Step Goal

The Activity tab in VitalSync shows your daily step count pulled from Apple Health, your step goal progress, and a streak counter that tracks how many consecutive days you have hit your goal.

Setting Your Step Goal

  • Open the Activity tab.
  • Tap the step goal ring or the Edit Goal button (pencil icon) near the top of the screen.
  • Enter your target number of steps. The default is 10,000 steps/day, which aligns with the U.S. Physical Activity Guidelines for general health.
  • Tap Save. The progress ring and percentage update immediately.
  • Viewing Your Progress

    ElementWhat It Shows

Progress ringToday's steps as a percentage of your goal
Step countRaw step count for today pulled from Apple Health
Streak counterConsecutive days you have met or exceeded your goal
Motivation EngineCombines your step progress with local weather to surface a personalised activity readiness message

    Streak Tracking

A streak increments at midnight if your step count for that day meets or exceeds your goal. Missing a day resets the streak to zero. Your longest streak is saved and displayed below the current streak.

    Apple Health Permissions

Step data is read from Apple Health > Steps. If your step count shows zero, check that VitalSync has Steps read permission:

  • Open Settings > Privacy & Security > Health on your iPhone.
  • Tap VitalSync.
  • Ensure Steps is toggled on under the Read section.
  • Evidence Note

A 2020 meta-analysis published in JAMA Internal Medicine found that higher daily step counts were associated with lower all-cause mortality, with significant benefits observed at 7,000--8,000 steps/day for adults over 60. The 10,000-step default is a practical, well-studied target for general wellness.

Important: Step goal tracking is for personal motivation and wellness only. It does not constitute medical advice. Consult a healthcare professional before beginning any new physical activity programme.
