Dexcom & CGM Integration

How to connect your Dexcom G6, G7, or other CGM device to VitalSync via Apple Health.

Dexcom & CGM Integration

VitalSync can display your continuous glucose monitor (CGM) readings automatically by importing them from Apple Health. This works with Dexcom G6, G7, Dexcom ONE+, Abbott FreeStyle Libre 3, and other CGM devices that share data with Apple Health.

How It Works

VitalSync does not connect directly to CGM hardware. Instead, it reads glucose data that your CGM app writes to Apple Health (HealthKit). This means:

  • Your CGM app handles the Bluetooth connection to the sensor.
  • Apple Health acts as the secure data bridge.
  • VitalSync reads from Apple Health and displays the data in its Blood Sugar dashboard.

Step-by-Step Setup

#### 1. Enable Apple Health in Your CGM App

Dexcom G7 / G6 / ONE+:
  • Open the Dexcom app.
  • Tap the menu → SettingsConnected Apps.
  • Tap Apple Health and enable Blood Glucose.
  • Abbott FreeStyle Libre 3:
  • Open the LibreLink app.
  • Tap MenuConnected AppsApple Health.
  • Enable Blood Glucose sharing.
  • Other CGM devices:

Check your CGM app's settings for an "Apple Health" or "HealthKit" integration option and enable Blood Glucose sharing.

    #### 2. Grant VitalSync Permission

  • Open Settings on your iPhone.
  • Tap HealthData Access & DevicesVitalSync.
  • Ensure Blood Glucose is toggled on for both Read and Write.
  • #### 3. Sync in VitalSync

  • Open VitalSync.
  • Tap Force Sync on the Dashboard.
  • Your CGM readings will appear in the Blood Sugar card with a CGM source label.
  • Reading Frequency

    CGM DeviceReading Frequency

    Dexcom G7Every 5 minutes
    Dexcom G6Every 5 minutes
    Dexcom ONE+Every 5 minutes
FreeStyle Libre 3Every minute (scanned on demand)

    Viewing CGM Data in VitalSync

Once connected, the Blood Sugar detail screen shows:

    • Continuous glucose trend line (5-minute intervals)
    • Time in Range (TIR) — percentage of readings within your target range
    • Glucose variability (standard deviation)
    • Projected A1C based on your CGM average

    Troubleshooting

    CGM readings not appearing?
  • Confirm your CGM app is sharing Blood Glucose with Apple Health (step 1 above).
  • Open the Health app → Browse → Body Measurements → Blood Glucose — if readings are not there, the issue is with your CGM app's Health connection, not VitalSync.
  • In VitalSync, tap Force Sync to trigger a fresh pull.
  • Check that VitalSync has Blood Glucose read permission (step 2 above).
  • Privacy Note: CGM data is imported into VitalSync's local database on your device. It is never uploaded to any server.
